Act 1

After reading act 1 of A Dolls House we were introduced to many characters.  For example Helmer treats his wife, Nora disrespectfully.  He often refers to her as a squirrel or a bird.  In the play A Dolls House it states " Is it my little squirrel bustling around.  This shows that Helmer doesn't treat Nora how a wife should be treated but, as a child or animal.  If I was in Nora's position, I would stick up for myself.  I would not want to be treated the way Helmer treats Nora.

Another Character interaction I've noticed is the way Krogstad talks to Nora.  He is described as a disreputable person by Helmer due to him comitting the crime of forgery.  Krogstad blackmails Nora who has also comitted the crime of forgery.  With Helmer becoming bank manager he is worried he will be fired and wants a higher position.  If I was in Noras shoes I would own up to my mistake because that is better than the constant fear of Helmer finding out .

  3. I agree that Torvald doesnt treat Nora like a woman should be treated. As if she was a pet or animal to him. No one whether a man or woman should be treated as disrespectful as Torvald is towards Nora.

  4. I agree with Hannah because they really don't show respect towards each other. Nora tries her best to impress her husband and Torvald keeps shutting her down and doesn't seem to care to much. I feel that a use for pet names towards a person isn't necessary and its not respectful.

  5. I couldn't agree more. The way Helmer treats Nora is so rude and in a disrespectful manner. Also with what you said about Nora needing to stick up for herself but to also own up to what she's done.

  7. I agree that if I was Helmer I wouldn't let him treat me like that. Also I would be truthful with Helmer with what I did then have some trying to control me by blackmailing me.

  8. I agree with you. Helmer treats her with no respect, he shouldn't treat her like an animal.

  9. I was thinking the same. Nora should just be honest with her husband not even because its her husband but the fact that its much better to say it herself rather than being blackmailed and being paranoid if someone will rat her out. Although its nowhere near a recent event for her to be honest now but, better later than never.
